Students get their careers in shape

With the deadline to apply for post-secondary school approaching, graduating high-school students received help planning their career paths at the Living Arts Centre.

The Stride Education and Career Expo, hosted by Peel design academy Thinnox, provided assistance to students interested in the fields of technology, engineering and design.

Notwithstanding the economic downturn, the fair impressed upon students that high tech jobs are in demand and outgrowing many other fields — so obtaining the unique skills needed could put them on a path to future success. The event, which took place Friday evening, also aimed to relieve some anxiety experienced by prospective students when selecting a post-secondary program.

The expo offered five sessions to attendees, including an assessment workshop, to help select a path of employment; discovery booths, which presented the data on technological careers; an expert exchange, where participants had some face time with industry professionals; a brand stand, where students discovered their personal "brand," and a session on patenting an idea.
